Milton H. Carter, Jr., the founding president of Live Music Awareness, died on April 25, 2000. Milton played guitar, bass, and trumpet with several Hawaiian music groups in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and at the Ilikai Hotel when he came back home to Hawaii. In 1984 he was elected president of the Musicians’ Association of Hawaii, Local 677 AFM, and devoted the rest of his life to the betterment of musicians’ working lives.
Benedicto “Benny” Kayampat Villaverde died Oct. 6, 2012. Born Dec. 19, 1926 in Onomea, he was a retired Hawaii Army National Guard first sergeant, member and vice president emeritus of the Musicians’ Association of Hawaii, longtime director of Hawaii State Senior Softball, and inducted into the National Senior Softball Hall of Fame in 2000. Benny was also an accomplished musician and played guitar in several Hawaiian and Filipino musical groups.
This fund in memory of Milton and Benny provides general support for all LMA programs.
